Nutrition Workshop for Early Learning Programs Training

On January 23rd, the Early Learning (Daycare and Headstart) Directors and Coordinators met with Roxanne Wagner the dietician for Day Star and Muskowekwan First Nations.  Roxanne facilitated a morning session on food labels and the importance of reading them while you are shopping.  She also did a very interesting session on the sugar content in drinks. They ranged from water to slurpees!!  The participants were able to go to the Punnichy COOP and look at the various labels on the foods that they use on a daily basis.  On returning to the Agency, the participants went over their menus to see how they could improve what they give the children for snacks and meals. This was a very informative session and Roxanne indicated that she is willing to do sessions with parents and children.  Thank-you to the COOP for allowing our participants to use their store for the tour.  Thank-you to Colleen Strongarm for organizing the workshop.  The Early Learning Group will be meeting on March 20th to learn more about budgeting for the meals they offer in their programs.  ​
